Temperature Sender Thread

Just found a replacement Temp guage (a nice Tim one) for babs on a land rover here in the yard. Unfortunately, the engine is already gone, so I am going to need to source a replacement sender unit. Thing is, I will also need an adaptor. What is the thread if the temp sender?

Something like 1/2" BSP

could be 3/8 BSP - I did find the sender wasn't a nice tight fit and needed threadlock to goo in properly.

I made a new stat housing and fitted a 3/8" BSP socket for the sender. The thread was a little slack but it sealed OK with a few turns of PTFE tape.

I know Speedies sell the standard senders (not that Bab's had a temp gauge when new). Problem is that the sender I need to buy to match the temp gauge is a 1/8 npt thread, so I have to get a suitable adaptor.

Having said this, it seems that the standard sender is giving more or less the right reading - and I will get Baz to lend me his infra-red temp thingy so I can see how well the sender and gauge are matched. If it's within a few degrees, I'll leave it as it is and save the tenner the sender costs.

I need to buy some replacemnet headlight bowls and rims, so the money will be better spent on that.
