Tappetty Tap!!!!

Is that the power of a sewing machine? :)

I'll try adjusting them down slightly tonight, sounded smooth before so guess it's in there somewhere, just need to find a sweet spot :)

As tight as possible will give the most cam timing and valve lift, so long as there is a gap when hot to allow for valve stem expansion :)

WTF! They look lovely, volvo orange too.

pleased to know put them to 10 and 12 thou and sounds pretty good. Just need to play a round with the tuning now, running little rough at certain revs, guess around 2500. Thanks for all the help again

Got a 100 miles trip under the belt yesterday, took a risk of driving it all the way to a balloon ride we'd booked, pressure on, if it broke down we weren't going - all went pretty well thankfully including some very steep hills to climb and go down. Even my dodgy overdrive wiring worked a treat, kicking in and out beautifully in 3rd and 4th. Also soundproofed everything so lovely and quiet in the cabin now and no over heating - sat about 5mm below the red line whatever we were doing...consistency is goo in my eyes. Got the servo and electronic ignition to fit in the next week and some finishing off of the interior - paint and electrics left. Pic to follow when complete.

One thing people may be able to help on. The van seems to accelerate pretty well but doesn't like constant pedal pressure - can feel it juddering along. Tickover isn't bad but misses a beat every second or two, not super smooth.

People think that most likely an air leak or mixture or something?

cheers

Jim

I had a similar problem on Harvey and I cured it by fitting a stronger spring in the SU, actually I put two in:) The carb piston seemed to be bouncing around at high air flows, even with engine oil in the dash pot, but the extra spring sorted it.

Thanks Panky. I did replace the spring with a red one and a new needle (standard for this enginecarb config). I also used engine oil - you mentioned auto gearbox oil in another thread. Will try different oil first, the double spring second and then might go back to the original springneedle combo that was in the carb third.

Cheers

Ideally it should be ATF and it suits Bonnie well, but the engine in Harvey sucks that hard the thicker oil and heavier spring was needed to dampen the carb enough:I

Can hear it sucking like a good un under there, in fact it's just about the only noise you hear from it so maybe on to something there.

Thanks Panky

Used this on the outside of the tunnel in front of the rad, didn't want to put anything inside in case it disrupted the airflow too much.

The stuff under the bonnet and on the two metal wings under the seats I got off eBay. A thick matting with a black back, stuck it down with high temp contact adhesive made a real difference to driving noise. I wrapped the manifold with the stuff from Ratsport to help keep the heat down.

Thanks Jim, that stretchy carpet stuff looks just the job to go under the leathery/vinyl jacket under the seats etc :p[8D]

Good stuff. Sorted the running too, put on the electronic ignition to start, as expected no difference but then worked through tuning the carb and runs cracking now. Probably get a colourtune and a strobe on it to complete. Pulls really well and got to 65!!!
