Swine Flu

I had thought that the worst bug i'd pick up this year would be swine flu. But now i've gone and got me a proper case of Commer fever.
We've been looking for a classic camper for a while and have looked at Bedford CA's, old transits and Commers. And i'm really not keen on VW's. Having thought a lot about all of them, i just can't get Commers out of my head. They are nicer to look at than the VW's, have more character, and this site and the friendliness of all on it have got me hooked.
However, whilst i know what to look out for in a VW (a friend who drives one won't shut up about them) and how much you should pay for them, Commers are a new thing to me.
Can anyone give some idea of what is a reasonable price to pay for a fairly good one that doesn't need a lot of work, as a benchmark to work from (in case i ever find one that hasn't "just been sold")?
It would also be handy to know if there are things to be avoided? Such as is the 1500 too slow.....

Prices seem to be on the up but there have been a few sellers disapointed that there expectations weren't matched with hard cash. Maybe we have hit a plateau and the summer boom is slowing - good for buyers and a wake up call for the over expectant ones. Prices range from hundreds to around £4K for an absolute belter - trouble is some peoples idea of pristine is slightly ambitious, Good luck:)

Things to watch out are the same for any old vehicle, it's all relative to you're abilty and budget I guess, also if you want a pristine one for showing or a heap to be a hippy in. No good me getting a shed of a vehicle as I need something that is practical not a project although I'm forever getting drawn in to upgrading or repairing as we go. On a different tangent who has found a good recovery and breakdown service as I've just about had enough of the AA. Commers aren't on their computer so they end up asking me stupid questions like does he have a twin rear axle and does he weigh over 2 tonnes. And the last two times they didn't tell the recovery truck exactly where we were even though we were at a junction.

Always had very good service from insurance recovery as they use who ever is nearest at time of breakdown they have lots of recovery companies on there books,bear in mind I often travel on my own being female seem to get recovered very promptly(even better when near home 'cos Racer comes to my rescue! They use you mobile to locate you too & tell you they can see you! which is very reasurring!
Also for any one in east anglia or any where in the country
[email protected] is very good if she can fit you in with other jobs she will give you a discount...
