give it a hundred miles and it will be as oily and dirty as all good Commers should be. I'm restoring it to use it, so not going to be to precious about it getting dirty again

Hi Dan, been watching your quality resto for a while now ..must have saved you a fortune in labour charges with all the hours you've put in yourself top work.[8D]
Can you advise me on the lower side panel repair .it looks like a double skin you have done? ours is only the bottom few inches that is rotten the length of the van both sides , so to stop that bowed look , adding that on the inside would give the extra strength?
also do you weld the lower edge to the inner cill [?]

Are you talking about the inner sill and the outer panel? if so the inner sill is required for an MOT and it gives the chassis strength. It is U shaped and so may appear to look double skinned in the photos?

it's the last picture , looks like another full section welded on the inside? looking at it again it's just one panel? and the lower edge not welded to the outer cill ,thanks Davie.

The confusion probably came because when I replaced the side of the van I did it with a flat sheet. In order to weld it in, I had to weld lengths of angle in to then weld the flat sheet to. If I had bent a 90 degree angle along the bottom of sheet then I would never have been able to shape it along its length.
