stroppy wheel cylinder woes!!!

Hi all,

PIA won't be long for her m.o.t now which is great news....however, I have braking issues to sort first...the front drivers side cylinder is engaging but not fully disengaging[}:)] causing it to stick sometimes??? I've tried lathering it in wd40 but to no avail:-( any suggestions welcome ....do I buy a new one or is it just crud that can be removed somehow?

that sounds like the flexi brake hose has collapsed inside allowing fluid under braking pressure to operate the cylinder but not return releasing the piston.:( good luck;)

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labottomy!
 
Could be the cylinder, but as Nathan says could also be the brake hose.
A good idea to replace the rubber brake hoses at this stage, just for safety,s sake. they cost peanuts. Martin should be able to help with all of it ;)

No the hose bolts onto the steel or copper brake pipe in the wheel arch and then bolts to the cylinder, i think thats the cheapest option first before you try a new cylinder, the brake on that side will need to be bled after fitting the hose.;)

to see if the hose has colapsed crack off the blead nipple to see if the cylinder returns this releces the fluid under the return spring tention on the shoes
 
I now think this is a Brake Expander problem? One side releases but the other side sticks on disengagement. Again, can it be stripped and cleaned or is a new one my best bet?
