Strobe light timing

Does anybody know what the timing settings are for the standard 1725 van? All my settings are for static timing and I'm after strobe light settings. Also what are the intervals on the crank pulley? I'm assuming that they are 5 degrees.

In my Haynes book of lies it says 7 degrees btdc static and running at correct idle speed.
Each point of the crank pulley is 4 degrees

The recommended settings should only really be used as a starting point, with engine wear and modern fuels you will find that you'll be tweaking the settings until you are happy.

Pretty much how I do it, but without marking up the dizzy - should do really:oops:

I must admit that I originally set the timing to a round about point then tweaked it on the dizzy thumb wheel until it stopped pinking. Thing is I've finally sorted the tappets (which were all way to tight) and changed the points and condenser and it's Obviously altered the timing so I thought I would try and be a little bit more precise.

Maybe the problem lies with the new bits you've fitted, modern stuff isn't known to be of the same quality as OE - especially condensers:(

To be honest panky the engine sounds as sweet as a nut, it's just me wanting to see how close I am to factory spec after setting it up by ear and intuition

Check out my Christmas present panky, a mint condition matching middle seat. What are the chances of getting hold of one?

I usually find if you have an advance dial on your strobe light its usually about 20 degrees advanced that they run there best depending on mods though. mine has electronic ignition, webber carb conversion, electric fuel pump with filter king regulator, and a better flowing exhaust manifold off an early series rapier and im sure ive gained a few horses.

Wow sounds impressive Jon. I blew a heater hose and have had to bypass the heater whilst I work out the best way to run from the block to the matrix, but I did manage to pop down to the local tip and he seems to run nicely after my tweaking so I will probably run as is.
