Strange Key /lock

i have got an extra lock/key hole on the drivers side just left of the door i have the key but it doesn't seem to do anything.

there isn't anything in my handbook,parts list or workshop manual

my van has got an auto sleeper conversion on it could it be to do with that?
 
I have one on Yori - it doesnt do anything but the most popular theory is some sort of immobiliser? would be great to hear if anyone else has solved the mystery

and that is interesting because i cant get the thing to start all the power is there and lights wipers everything works just will not turn the starter motor nothing?
 
do you have a crank start and handle to try? we found many more things wrong with yori (who had stood a while and had other electrics working )

I don't think so as it is a dodge so its a bit later then that, is there anything i should check can i just jump it to the starter from the battery or will that just course more truble then its worth i just would like to know if its the engine or a wiring problem.
 
Mabe the solenoid is stuck, if you are careful you can short it out across the terminals with a screwdriver - or run a jump lead from the battery live and touch it to the starter motor live terminal - but be VERY careful not to touch it to earth or it will get rather hot[:0]
