Step for side door commer PB.

Hi Everyone,

Access to my van is via a side door as its a dormobile conversion. There isn't a step to get in so its a bit of a hike so when my little boy is older in a year or so he won't be able to get in and out of the van easily. So I noticed Martin Maltas has a step on his FC Maidstone, I tried to offer him a cash bribe to part with it but he wasn't having none of it. Any way I've just been perusing the web and I found a picture of this camper which is a york conversion. It has a side step. Is it OE or is there somewhere that sells steps for commers and do they require welding or is there already a bracket if the step was originally a factory option

That looks like one of Martin's old vans too[8D]
The factory fitted steps fitted to mini buses were wider and hinged down automatically when the door was opened(I don't think vans had them). You could always just buy a caravan step like this one

yeah I've already got one of those but i would prefer an integrated step like the one in the picture.

I have about four brand new old stock steps.the hing part is already built in, you would just have to make up the rods or levers to operate it, as I don't have any of them im afraid. it shouldn't be to difficult though I wouldn't have thought.:p;)

I have a step of a Suntour, that folds away manually before you close the door. Lucy in the pic you found, sold to a couple in Lancashire.

I would be interested in a step also. Do you have any plans or diagrams as to how to make the step work with the door?
Mines a '78 spacevan mini bus and the door opens the other way (Hinge from B pillar ) would that make a differance?

Thanks Mark

Cool Woolf man that sounds perfect. Did you get my earlier post? Ive got swampsters old Dormobile there is some small patches of rust appearing its nothing major just a bit starting to creep through. Do you know the paint code for the white and yellow when it was painted after you sorted out the rot?

I find an upturned beer crate works a treat :D

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

So are you interested in the steps then mate, if not I will put them back on the dusty shelf again. Haha:D

I'm not sure, the other side I can see it not being very aesthetic once the door is closed and the step is folded up. Are all your steps the same design? Ideally I'm looking for one identical to the step as found on Martin's FC Maidstone as below. Sorry for being a pain.
