Starting from cold

Hello chaps,

I was starting up Babs this morning and it got me thinking, I have been advised in the past that it's not good to drive on choke but that you should wait until fully warmed up and then drive, but equally I've been told that it's better to start, wait briefly and then drive, reducing the choke as you go. Does anyone have a definitive answer? perhaps someone a little more mechanically minded than myself?:)

I always warm up in winter in icey conditions on milder days I do it the other way,a warm engine should be more ecconomical is what I am told.

As maximum wear occurs when the engine is cold, it,s the most critical time. Any engine should be warmed for 2-3 mins in a fast tickover (1500-2000 rpm) before being loaded. Too much choke will wash the oil off the bores, turn it off asap :)
