Starting/Coil feeds/fuel etc

Hi All,

Yesterday I swapped the plugs on the Dodge. She's not been driven yet and has been standing for a long while but has always started fine the last few weeks. Was supposed to be quick task out of the way.

After I swapped the plugs (like for like NGK BP6ES) I couldn't get her started. Turns over on the starter but no attempt as firing at all.

I checked for voltage on the +ve terminal of the coil and got various almost 0v readings. Should this be permanent +12v when the ignition is live?

I ran a straight +12v feed to the +ve terminal and she started and ran for a minute or so.

After this I tried again without the extra 12v feed and she started fine.

Since this point though she's back to totally refusing to start. Either with or without +12v to th e + terminal

With a plug out and against the engine I have sparks.

Which made we worry about fuel supply issues from where she's been standing. But with the fuel line removed from the carb she appears to be pumping fuel through fine.

With the fuel line on the carb there doesn't seem to be any fuel being pulled through.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Welcome Paul...a stuck carb float would be my guess

Either that or a blocked jet.
It also sounds like a loose connection on the 12v feed to the coil, it should be permanent live with ignition on.
When you try to start it pull the bend that goes to the filter off and put your hand over the carb inlet, as the engine cranks, to see if you can suck some fuel through

Thank you both for your help.

OK - It's definitely fuel rather than spark related:

• The +ve terminals readings were a complete red herring - re-checked today and embarrassed to say I had the meter on AC. On the right setting it's showing 12v!
• Put a small amount of fuel in the carb throat and it catches and runs briefly.

So I need to look at the carb - something I've tended to avoid, but looks fairly simple from the instructions in the manual so I'll get the top off and see.
