Starter Motor

Hi does any one know what other vehicles the starter motor was fitted to?

I have an automatic? not sure if this makes a difference.

is very simmilar, but I have a nice shiny starter that has a different size spindle that was a slight waste,

any clues, or any one got one? I cant refurbish mine as the main spindle is all broken.

thanks for the help (i have loads of questions now I have found a commer board!)

thank you for the offer I missed the boat again!

I set off this afternoon to sort the starter out, first I went to a local parts/breakers yard called ducworths I put the starter on the counter and asked if he had one, he sucked in air and said no my starter was a weird one and he had never seen anything like it. i mentioned that there were quite a few on ebay and that it is just a lucas. then he said oh no its not a lucas, we argued for a bit until I mentioned it said lucas on it, then he still said it wasnt a lucas at this point I decided to agree with him and departed as quickly as possible, so next stop....

I went to someone who repaired an alternator successfully for me a few years ago, this chap knew his stuff, he said yep he had seen a lot of these but I needed to get the correct starter armature and new brushes, he looked at the armature and on it was a number then did a search on http://www.woodauto.com/ typing in the number to the search box hey presto there was the correct armature.
he quoted me £50 all in for new armature and brushes fitted, so I agreed. when I got home I wondered if I had paid over the odds and if the armature was just £10 or so and he was stinging me for labour, I thought well he had the info I didn't so I was happy... Still my curiosity got the better of me and I looked at the prices of armatures and they are all about £50 plus vat and carriage retail any way, so he gets a trade discount and makes a few quid fine by me!! (must learn to be more trusting:)

I will let you know what it is like after its in!

Just thouhgt I would give you an update on the starter motor after it was refurbished.
well when I collected I was pleased but then he said that i must have cracked the front pressing out the old one, i didn't give this much thought and took the item (the price was £50 but when I picked it up he kept fiddling with his calculator and wanted more so the only way I could get my starter back was to pay cash and no receipt)
when I go the started home and painted it i found a crack in it, not in the old bit where I had pressed it out but in the casing, and I would never have put a cast iron bit in the press let alone put 3 tons through it! so in other words he probably put the end cap on the wrong way around and it cracked where the locating lug sits. or he dropped it. either way not very impressed, fortunately a mate has a tig and it is all sorted now, but it would have been nice if he had just said oops I made mistake!
