stalling when very hot probs and cant start

had my van Betty in for MOT on Saturday, and had a few probs when she was idling for about 10 mins,then was a pig to start again after stalling. i have a problem with the airfilter pipe falling off so could be the air going to the carb is hot , could this be the prob ?
Any ideas ?

That could have caused it - the engine would have been running a bit lean with the filter off. It could also have been vaporisation in the fuel line, one very worthwhile mod is to run the fuel line in front of the radiator - in all that nice cool air - lovely[^]

these sort of problems are heat related, either fuel vapour locks in the pipe or carb, or manifold as its overheated by the exhaust [xx(]

I had a very similar problem recently whilst on the way to a wedding! The Van stalled at lights, took ages to restart and then cut out again a few miles later...turned out to be a condensor.
