spacevan engine service parts?

hi everyone,
going to be starting work on my hightop drekly, want to get the engine running properly first job, im struggling to find info on what weight oil to use, what coolant to use and where to get plugs, leads, dizzy cap, points/ elec ignition etc. all the engine service bits really.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks
sam

Martin Maltas (on here) can probably help with parts. Also, Speedy Spares (on line) cover the Commer/Dodge. Engine oil is 20/50, pretty sure the gearbox takes 20/50 as well? Coolant go for the blue stuff, not the modern red/orange/yellow/pink stuff.

I am not a person, I am a number, 395 actually......Be seeing you!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Yep oils and anti-freeze as Baz says. Martin can supply points, dizzy cap condenser and just about everything else. The oil filter is the same as a classic Mini and the HT leads and plugs (Champion N9Y) will also fit so you can nip down to your local motor factors for many things.
If they ask what year the Mini is just say 1986 - that's the year I picked out of the air when I went to Halfords for bits:)

thanks guys thats brilliant! been thinking it over today and decided that I ought investigate why the clutch is not engaging even though it feels like there is peddle there first job, no point putting nice fresh oil and coolant in if iv got to pull the motor out. need to figure out why engine only running on 3 too cos if its a valve down or suming then obviously thats an engine out job too, hopefully just a plug or lead though. suming catching in the front brakes too and theyre dragging so engine service is slowly sliding down the list. I think I may be keeping martin busy in the coming months with parts and panels I need ;)
thanks again, much appreciated.

The clutch plate has probably stuck to the flywheel through standing so long, common problem.

From the archives:)

First of all make sure the hydaulics are working. You'll need somebody looking underneath whilst you push the pedal. If the pushrod from the slave cylinder is moving the clutch operating lever back and forth then it's not that. Stuck clutches are far more fun. Warm up the engine. Stop it. Put it in first and restart the engine so that your Commer starts to move. With your left foot, depress clutch pedal (it's vital the hydraulics are working, as above) and then with right foot stamp on the other two pedals alternately, going on and off the throttle and brakes. The shunting will either free it all up with a bang, or you run out of road. It's normally just a bit of corrosion on the flywheel sticking stuff together. This method does work, my Commer sits in a field all winter and it happens every year. [Andy Zarse]

spot on, iv not checked the hydraulics yet but it feels good through the peddle. have been thinking its a stuck clutch and now I know the technique so I'll give that a try. always handy to know the common problems and solutions.
Thank you :)

Sometimes just warming everything up with the engine running then wedge the clutch pedal down over night does the trick.

My van hasent been run or on the road since '91 and iv just solved the same clutch problem , i bled the system to the slave so i knew that my fluid was going inside and the slave was moving then i let the system settle kept pumping for a bit and topped it up to the brim. Then started the van and just put the clutch down and put it in reverse and it moved. If she wont move then put the van in gear and then turn the engine one to see if it jolts back and frees the clutch plate from the flywheel :) hope this helps :)

Good one, thanks people, il definitely try these things once I get chance to work on it, possibly Saturday, little bit weather dependent though as the workshop is full.
