hi people...
i've just bought my first commer and have a couple of questions for the people who know all!!
my fuel and temp gauges don't work and i don't realy know were to start.. wondering if any one knows some quick checks i can do to find out were the problem is coming from..
second, can any one recomend a body shop in southend or essex as her body is in need of some work and a respray..

my fuel gauge doesn't work on one and the temperature didnt work on the other.

fuel is more commonly the sender unit in the tank; I am not sure that anyone has successfully sourced a replacement yet? *looks at commeracer*

as for bodyshops - I am not in your neck of the woods so not able to comment; don't forget about www.coventrycommerpanels.co.uk for any bodywork you may need - better and probably cheaper than someone making them for you custom
 
my temp guage wasn't working either - the wire had been pulled off the engine - take a look just where the top rad hose comes out.

if both temp and fuel guage failing could be a wire behind the dash that is loose.

sure the engine is hot and that there is fuel in the tank:I
 
if both gauges are messing about then its probably the voltage stabilizer, behind the dash and looks like a flasher unit, electronic replacements are available on ebay for peanuts.:)
i dont know about original replacement sender units, i bought a universal diy kit with a seperate gauge for woolfys tank.....its nearly finished woolfy ;)

I know a guy who does mainly classic vehicle body renovations at Wickford,just off the A127 near the Dick Turpin pub if thats any use.
If you would like to have him look at your van i will arrange it for you,also it would be nice to meet another commer enthusiast in the area:). I'm in Corringham, near Basildon.

I reckon thats a dead cert. You can test both gauges by earthing the senders.

Trev.. sounds good. do you have a number for that guy or the name of his garage, so i can give him a bell, when i've got time to get the van down there.
