Smurfs clutch??

Hi Guys

Started Smurf up today and let her run for an hour, she started really easy and she hasn't been touched since the Coventry bash at Woolfys!

The problem is I cant get her in gear with the engine running (I can select gears with engine off) so I'm guessing my clutch is not working?? there is plenty of fluid and pressure when I depress the clutch pedal...
I thought maybe its sticking so I tried putting it in gear then trying to start her up to free it but after a few attempts at bouncing up and down the drive I'm no closer to knowing whats wrong.......so, help please??

Clutch is seized on [xx(] Common problem on these, when they are stood. Warm the engine thoroughly, use something to hold the pedal down whilst it's warming and try bumping again. Lots of other suggestions been made on here before.

I'd better give Peggy a little run out soon then.

Peggy can do 78mph!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Oh no, Colin. The dreaded stuck clutch syndrome! [:0][xx(]

Must say that I'm very concious of this issue, so even though the Bluebird is parked indoors during the winter, I'm still starting it up every 4 - 6 weeks and make sure I move it back and forth a bit every time so that the clutch gets some action. And the brakes too, of course. If Smurf is parked outdoors, I'm sure it is even more important to to do this ritual.

All the best of luck. I'm sure you get it freed up ok, eventually. :)

Removed our gearbox 3 times in last 12 months

1. Core plug behind flywheel
2. Repair to fork bracket
3. Swap to Scotty's box

If removal is needed I'd leave it untill just before regular use again;)

hope you get it sorted colin;) must be a lesson to us all really and to do what jostein does, drive the van even a short distance every month or so:)

If it is a stuck clutch plate we had this once after being parked up for six weeks. We try and get out at least every fornight minimum, prevention better than cure.

I was advised to put it in reverse then turnign the ignition on and pressing the ingnition with teh clutch down. The starter motir in revese should give enough to free it. It took a couple of attempts but freed pretty easy.

Dont try and force it with the engine running. You should be able to select the gears still with the engine off. Not sure you woudl want to do it all the time though? If the clutch frees you dont go anywhere and if it doesnt the van wont start so you dont hit the wall (fast anyway)!

Finally got time to play today, managed to free it up ok and even went out for a ride YAY! I had kind of forgfotten about all the strange looks you get:D[8D]

I'm paranoid about Harvey's clutch sticking now:I I think I've checked it half a dozen times since you started this thread Colin. The engine does start first push of the button though[^] Might go out for a little run tomorrow[8D]

Checked clutch fluid and made sure no leaks....made sure gearbox had plenty of oil in....ran engine with a length of 2x2 holding clutch pedal down for about 45 mins....switched engine off....selected 1st gear, turned key..kangaroo forward...switch off...select reverse, turned key...kangaroo backwards........repeat!!! whilst van is in kangaroo mode pump clutch and she will either start with a free clutch or just keep kangarooing lol ....funny description but I think you will get the idea mate..:D:D
