If I undo the bolt(Red) the 'bracket' will pivot (blue) or slide (green)

No, undo the ball joint nut itself, pop the end out of the bracket and turn the rod one way or 'tother. The ball joints are threaded on like a miniture track rod.

thankyou kind sir i have ordered a new solenoid, seal for where the prop goes in (although wierdly now the van is level it doesn't leak!) and a new speedo cable

To adjust the gear linkage correctly, first you remove both gear linkages from the box, insert the 2 Churchill tools, one in the bottom of the gear lever housing, the other in the top of the gearbox plate, this locks everything in place. Then adjust the linkages so they fit to the box.

defo oil in it, i moved it onto level ground before I filled it. placed a sheet of ply under it and its dry

well I managed to adjust the linkage, so we have 4 gears again
