that is correct...it's basically just an expanded section of pipe aka a muffler, it will not wear out/rot like the silencer/back box as not so much heat is held here, but it does help damp the noise without restricting at all...worth the £8...very helpfull being so slim as will go under the gearbox pretty much:D You would also need a reducing piece to join to the down pipe but my welder has other ideas[?]:D

In my opinion (i'm no expert) you are paying a premium for that shiny tip and there is no muffler. I am told VERY noisy without:(


 
Colin, how does the Ford part attach to the manifold??

I've had single and twin box systems on Minis and yes the single is much louder and 'burbly' - a beautiful sound, but probably too much for a vehicle you want to camp in!
 
I'm keeping about 18'' of the original downpipe, so will sleeve down to fit. If that proves to be unsatisfactory I will cross that bridge later:D

im impressed[^] so is it alot louder than the old one, and have you drove the van yet and noticed any better performance[?]:)

It is obviously a bit louder and deeper in tone. I have only gone round the block but now I have another problem...a minor one hopefully

I can only get gears 1, 2 and reverse, I am sure it's just adjustment on the linkage, didn't have time to look today, being Mothers day we had the family round and I was chef:D

tested the solenoid by running power direct from the battery...no joy and it has been tampered with before, so, i will be calling Speedy's in the morning[8D]


 
thats a bit of a bummer:( hope you get it sorted quickly;)was there any real problems fitting the exhaust and also which one did you buy, was it side or centre exit please[?]

probably wont get time til' next weekend....

As I said before a mate did the welding,( only one weld onto existing downpipe) but once we had looked at it, then stared at it, scratched our heads, stared some more, had about 8 cups of coffee and finally started actually cutting the pipe it took about 30 mins to put on including the welding ...prior to that we made up 2 support brackets.....It definately took longer to plan it than actually doing it:)


 
well worth the money then;) i seen the link where you got it from and they do a side exit and a centre exit, which one have you just fitted[?]

Side exit mate:D and don't forget the Ford ben bit I got too. only other stuff was 4 U clamps and a few bits of metal I found in my garage that were 'fettled' (bent) to make up hanging points:D


 
Thanks john....will have to get the manual out,,,or maybe not, I seem to remember something about a special tool:(


 
Try some adjustment at the gearbox end before worrying about special tools. I had trouble with my first van after changing the box and all that was needed was to alter the selector rod - that's the one on the gearbox with the plastic ball joints on either end.
