Smooth or stippled ...

Can anybody tell roughly when the 'C O M M E R' letters went from the smooth to stippled finish ?

Just curious, as I rather like the smooth and know that they're incorrect for my 1975 PB but I have set of each ready to go back on.

The Rootes parts list also shows plastic buckets for their fitting to the bodywork but I'm imagining that these days that a good sealant would suffice, perhaps with stainless star washers on the rear to secure.
 
I don't recall anything but smooth chrome finish on PBs, I always thought the stippled type was for the bigger commercials. Mine are secured with a few dabs of Tigerseal and they've never come off, hold them in place with masking tape over night until the sealant goes off and they're fixed securely.
