Silver Screens

All, I spoke to Silver Screens yesterday and they can make new for approx £110-120 in modern thermal material guaranteed to prevent condensation on inside of windscreen.

The only snag is they have thrown away the patterns so they need an old screen to copy (would be good to get a van there too)

Any volunteers in the North with a van, or any at all anywhere willing to loan me a cover to copy? (I will pay postage)

Regards

Mike

I don`t mind visiting them if they are relatively local

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

I have an original silverscreen in good condition - this fits externally on the van - windscreen and side windows. Might be a little easier than them measuring up a van?

I think commerchris has one too but it might not be a nice as mine :p I can post it to them if it gets returned safely!

Last time they were approached they were not interested.

I am sure i could make these much cheaper just need to source
materials oh & adjust the tension on the sewing machine!
You send yours Jon I am keeping mine!

I bought the very last Commer Silverscreen off them a few years ago, the guy told me at the time that it was the last one as he had destroyed the pattern[:0]
It is now in 'pablo's' Car-Camper so we will have to make sure we are not camping at the same time in our Commers, cus' I'll need to borrow it:D
PU coated fabric (loads on ebay) will do the trick, if anyone on here is handy with a sewing machine:p

I started with nothing.....and I still have most of it!

All

I'm picking up this thread - and may be asking the same old, same old...

If i'm to take a crazy bimble aroudn the country over the next few weeks I ought to be thinking about window covers. Just Kampers offer various for the VW Type 2, but not sure if they'll fit the superior Commer (!)

Any thoughts or guidance...

Edward

There's a place in Bolsover that will make them custom for around £120. I offered to take mine as a template as I'm close by there. Unfortunately mines off the roads now till Summer but if your near enough to there?

I'm not sure how effective a screen cover will be on a panel van conversion with side windows and a fabric sided elevating roof:I

Yep the Iceman looks good in his pajamas :D But with our 'orrible winters they need to be able to insulate from the cold and be weather proof:I

Thanks panky. He does look good at the moment :)
brrrr i remember well the camping in the cold... As a child we always went camping in snowdonia. Thinking about it it was more the relentless rain than the cold....
Oh well distant memories now.
The canvas is double layred so a thin layer of insulation would go in ok i would think, no need here though, 34 deg C here this afternoon. Thw white paint and thick poly insulation seem to keep the heat out of the van quite well. Especially as ther is no roof vent at the moment. (It hit the garage door )

I just need a good rootes...
