Serviceing.

How important is it to service my commer? Is there anyone on here who is local to Droitwich Spa who could service my commer?

As important as any other classic - vital if you want a long lfe for your van. Changing the engine oil and filter is easy, get yourself a grease gun for all the nipples and electronic ignition so you don't have to bother with points. Do it your self and you know it's done right:)
Our vans were designed with easy servicing in mind so don't be put off and have a go.

Probably a good idea to find a mechanic of particular 'maturity' (Im trying not to offend the old fella's on the forum! [}:)]). Some 'younger' technicians might not know what your Commer is and would be wasting their time trying to locate the OBD diagnostics connector! :D.

But as Mr Panky says, servicing is critical to enjoying hassle free motoring! .

Regards.

we have an engineering fault finding flow chart at work, it goes along the lines of:

if its supposed to move but doesnt - grease it
if it moves but shouldnt - tighten it

Spare a Commer Guv?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

I still have my Wanner grease gun and I bet there's not many on here that will remember them, but I would be interested to find out if there is any special tools, grease gun included, that you experts recommend for when I get my van back from Big M. There is nothing better, on a wet cold day, than crawling around under the vehicle, with water running down your neck and up your sleeves all in the name of love.

Cheeky young pup, I got mine brand new when they were all the rage, when all vehicles had grease nipples and plugs and points, that you could get to and change yourself. I look at an engine now and think, forget it,phone for the so called mechanics, those who don't repair something they just replace it with a new partquote:

Forgive me for being stupid, what exactly do i use the grease gun for/on. I am slowly learning but its all quite new to me.

On yer nipples:)
The steering has about twenty. Every swivel, bush and pin has one - the gun clicks onto the nipple, a couple of shots of grease pumped in and everything's fine for another six months:)

I suspect that Andrew is taking the wee wee and if not I can scan my greasing chart onto here unless someone has already done it.

OK Andrew sorry about that, I have stuck a greasing chart on the Mechanical link plus some other paper work.I suppose I think everybody is as old as me and in them days all cars had grease nipples.

Take your pick:)

Probably a lever type with a flexible connection for those hard to get at places.
