Oooopp that was me on 'er laptop last night (lazy I know!)

Yori is in the garage - no attention this week but next week they will be taking a look; no chance of fixing before the meet then!

The one with the yellow roof is for sale to the right person. It has a siezed engine but acually brakes and steers. The interior is really nice. Only a couple of spots of bad rust over the rear sills and the rest is OK. Big dent in the door.
I plan on making it a winter project if I can find an engine to swap in. Either that or I rebuild the old one.

I want to take the 2 camping together at least once!

Hi Al,

Just found this site and there you were! Hope all is well with you and yours? You'll have to come over next year for the National, this year's was great. I'm so tempted to go for a Commer, towing an Imp on an A-frame with one would be cool![8D]

Baz

Hi baz, welcome to our mad house!sounds good,I quite fancy towing my riley 1.5 on the back of Ran my dodge/commer with an A FRAME,WOULD MAKE FOR EASIER CAMPING [^]

An Imp, a Riley and a Mini (mine) being towed behind a fleet of Commers, now that would be different [8D] Where can I get an 'A' frame :p

Hi Baz,Welcome to the world of commers. There's a few of us Impers with a soft spot for these ol' vans, although i've yet get the one i want.I'm still looking and waiting!
Cheers
Trev

back to my "rootes"

hey when charlies up and moteed i will get sum piccys of him towing my minor panda car complete with police signs. lets collect the full set! i just love the yellow roof van kicks ass on splitty vdubyas looks so cool with no bumpers and where do we all get a set o them there alloys? lushest!

Hmm.. I have set of black doors for an Imp and painting the boot and bonnet would be easy. I could make my own Panda Imp and drag it behind the commer.
The wheels came with the van when I picked it up. I haven't looked at it too closely since.

I spent the better half of the day gettign the old 62 white Commer ready for a new coat of paint on top. I alway fail to plan in enough time to do these things. Here I thought it would take about 5 hours, then I get more into it and 12 are spent and it's still not done. At least there is a coat of primer on the top and I can see the defects that need to be smoothed out.
Also managed to primer all the other bare metal spots to help keep her more sound outside during the winter months.
Once I get to a good spot I'll take some pics of the progress and post them. It's sunny out today, Maybe I'll roll it out and snap some.

The other Commer with the yellow roof has been traded for work to a British car specialist who is going to fix it up. It will be good to see that one running again!

Progress....
Paint going on. Note: filler is not covering the grill vent. This one had no opening there, just damage from braille parking techniques.

Paint on and out of the shop.

Now I need to take a few pics with the lights on. It's a bit duller now as I have started the 'cut and buff' process, so the 'buff' part is incomplete. Still better than the old original white paint and rust spots.

Now on to that waterpump! [:(!]

PS... Anyone got a windscreen?

very nice [^][^][^]

looks to have come up really well, you must be very chuffed with that.
Have just noticed what an elegant profile your roof has compared to the chunky autosleeper slab I have. Much more aerodynamic[8D]

Did you mention forum to new owner of yellow roofed commer?, would be nice to keep track of how it gets on

Looking forward to seeing headlights back in and paint job in its' full glory. Good luck sorting out water pump, even more vital with lack of air cooling from having no grill - is that standard for that age of commer[?]

That is a really nice colour choice [^] looks fantastic. The air vents are normally painted so chrome one will be quite rare even over here.

The 62 model is a Commer Maidstone, it was Rootes own camper conversion from 1960 until 64'. It is known as the Commer-Commer in camper van circles in the UK. That one-piece Commer badge was standard on the Commer front on the early models, not just export models.quote:

Here's the 2 we have in Seattle. Both came down from Vancouver BC. The 62 I bought a year ago, and the 67 was picked up in the summer for a friend. The 62 runs, but poorly as teh carb is shot. The 67 has a siezed engine.
