Seatbelt solution from the dark side??

I've been to the dark side in search of information! I'm looking to fit 3 point seat belts in my van and came accross this:

If anyone would take a quick look and give me their views or comments I would be grateful. Also has anyone done anything similar to a Commer?

That looks very useful. I think the trouble is that the VW happens to have the metal frame in the right place where the Commer has windows where you need to fit the belt mountings [V]. Nowt wrong in pinching ideas from 'over there' :)

I'd agree with panky, the window is in the way. it needs some lateral thinking to form a tough top mount for the seatbelt. There might be some scope in fitting something into the roof (as with modern autosleepers)

On the rear belts on a Volvo the shoulder strap is threaded through a bar which fastens about and below the window.

May be worth considering if it will fit
 
I am thinking roll cage = seatbelts,but safety must be concidered in design,,have a look at motorsport regs ???

when I was looking into my solution I had a nosy in my friend's MGB. The belts anchor back on the rear wheel arch and I dont think there is any other vertical mount.

one point to bare in mind is the shoulder straps have to be horizontal-15 degrees down. any lower can cause spinal compression damage :)

I have been in touch with Quickfit BSB who manufacture belts for classic vehicles, sent them some details and this was the response:

If B-post is strong enough, it has to be drilled in order to fit top and bottom mounting points. You may also use floor (at the bottom of the B-post) for securing retractor. See attached picture for more details. Once you locate suitable place, strengthening plates (tapped plates) should be put underneath. In order to secure the plates, we rivet them to the car’s body so when you unbolt the seat belt plates stay on.

I didn't realise you meant seat belts for the cab, I thought you wanted to fit them in the rear. I'll try and take some pics of mine to give you an idea. I'm surprised the locations aren't already there.

those std tapped plates are very small, really it should be 3x3" and have a tapped boss welded in thats at least 20mm long :)

Here you go, sorry about the mess. There are three positions on the B post that the belt can be attached to, adjustable seatbelt mounts - how futuristic was that.
I can't see if you could drop the plates down the B pillar from the top because the roof lining is in the way.
