it it possible to rustproof inside the peak? or do I need to drill some holes behind the wiper motor?

I've never really understood all this peak malarky, there's nothing wrong with mine except a bit of flaky paint on the underside. Why is the peak prone to rust and what can be done to stop it?
FWIW, as I'm sure I've mentioned previously, I once overheated in France, my bulbous end blew off and it's never been seen since, but that's a seperate matter entirely, according to my GP... [V]
