Saying Hello from NEW member

Hello from myself.to all members of COMMERVANFAN.My name is FRED.I live in Northampton.I had over 12 years 8 Commers..But my old QUEENIE reg KBD858L was my pride and joy for the 12 years I had her.Sadly in 2001 I sold her on.Last known area BANBURY Oxfordshire..pictures if anyone knows of her whereabouts please let me know.I was a very early member of the Classic Camper Club going right throught the 90s with Queenie.in the pictures SHE was loaded on to a lorry and that was our parting.I had and my Family many Happy holidays in her.I fitted a 1725cc Sunbeam Rapier engine and overdrive gearbox, and many other mods to make her cruise along at over 90 mph.and doing 35 mpg at 50mph.which was good.I went to many CCC meeting and over the years made many friends...PLEASE if anyone knows the whereabouts of QUEENIE let me know.I checked out DVLA and it looks like its still going somewhere..BUT where I have no idea. Thanks for reading this.regards Fred.ps.HOW do I upload pictures to site.cheers

I have loads of diecast models.)Like wise I have diecast models of the different models of COMMERS.milk floats,Vans,Pickups,etc..also the carrier lorry etc..plus other models of all the vehicles Ive had over the years.Looking forward to chatting about my hobbies or COMMERs.I did a lot of work on them within the Classic Cammper Club members.I am a Mech.I will close for now.T time. Thanks for the welcome again.Bye FRED.:)

SAD DAY...When old QUEENIE went off to Banbury, oxfordshire.I really had no time on my hands to do anymore with HER..Due to work and hours I did..SO with great sadness I sold her on...DOES anyone know of her whereabouts.thanks.

Have a good tea Fred, have put number plate and pic on 'lost and found' category for Queenie - you may want to add some details in the hope someone will know where she went. I don't suppose anyone from Classic Camper club knows her whereabouts? - she looked a great van in 2001 so hope there will be a good chance she is still around[8D]

Just wondering Bikernut do you have a pic of the van with the top up or do you know what company fitted the interior. Looks very much like my Skye :D:D:D

Does the reg KBD858L go with your skye please.I will dig out more pictures of QUEENIE to show her off in her HAY day ok.I cannot for the love of god remember now who did the inside fitting.BUT I will.its going to be a sleepless night thinking of it all..years ago I could go right on about it.old age is catching up Im afraid now.just give me time and all will be here on forum.I tried the CCC and nothing.even went to a AGM the other year to see members and chat with them, still no closer..thanks FRED.

No - sorry my Skye is PYD 766L but I wondered if yours was a Haylett "Olympian" conversion like mine. She was manufactured in. Bristol originally. The top is made of canvas, striped with white and red.:D:D:D

Welcome Fred :D. I've got myself a Rapier engine to drop into my camper and was very interested in the performance you quoted for yours, what other mods did you do besides the o/drive.

I noticed fridge is at the rear of van,is that a cycle rack on the back? Debs are your rear lights that shape? also noticed there is a badge on the drivers side door? I bet that recovery trucks long gone [}:)] welcome to the mad house by the way :DI said to Tim earlier looks like Debs van [8D]

my rear lights arent so rectangular looking, rounded edges at the top and slightly smaller towards the bottom. The colour I think is very similar to Skye's original colour - turquoise:D:D:D

Hi Debs.Haylett is it I think.when I first got her.the fridge was a water type cooler box just inside on right.I change it after a couple of months to a electrolux GAS/12v model. If i remember right the seats folded down for double bed.in the popup roof you had to hammucks pull out.and I made another hammuck to fit across the front seats for my small daughter to sleep on.on the right from back doors was the cooker, cupboards, left side wardrome, sink, cupboards.storage underseats.under the engine bay was a 1725cc sunbeam rapier engine.twin solex carbs.4 branch exhaust manifold, with mods to fit.overdrive gearbox.back axle from the post office diesel models.higher ratio better alround axel.salisbury one thinking back.not to sure now.this is going back to 1988 when this was done.at the beginning of my COMMER days.in between all this I had 7 others which I did up and sold on.auto high top one.dodge badged one also.all PBs.I stripped afew others and sold on parts also.I was the northampton spares man in the CCC monthly mag.just about every part I had in stock.NOW nothing..If I can help out with any information on a trouble spot email me.I will see if I can help you. There was many mods on my commer.just need time to write it down.MY commer was built at RYETON near Coventry.at the ROOTES old factory.where they did a proto type of a straight 6 yank engined commer.with electric gearbox selector on dashboard.I seen the COMMER with the engine in.infact I nearly got it.all 5,700cc of it.the only one in uk.with extra 3 feet on the backend of body.PB2500 series.LOOKed wicked..but no where to park it at time..my home yard was full.anyhow will close now will find pictures in time.regards fred

Studios Bessie has similar rear lights which is unusual for an early model. I wonder if they where export spec or something before they where finally adopted for UK models a few years later.

sounds just like mine. Rear doors have material pockets. two little wooden storage compartments. See my pics on here :D:D:D
