Running issues

right, not overly technical minded here so you have been warned.
Had a few issues on way back from martins with fuel filter getting blocked with rusty coloured ...... Well ..... Rust!
Every time I rinsed the inline filter out and eventually replacing it a few times ...... It was good for another 50 mile. However today it happened again, same problems but inline filter was fine...... I think the mechanical pump was blocked with the dreaded snakeskin!
To cut a long story short ...... Who the hell is Tim? How much are his tanks? And should I fit an electrical pump? .......... Lol
Cheers
Baz

Oh dear the dreaded snakeskin:(
Tim is your saviour , let me hear you say hallelujah. and yes he does an excellent line in ally tanks - Tim alias commeracer, I'm sure he'll be along soon:cool:
Before you start shelling out on a new pump give the old one a good clean out and check the float chamber.

Although I bought this motor to fulfill a dream from childhood ....... It is still gonna have to be hired out to fund my toy habit!
Therefor although money is a major issue ...... Is the electrical more reliable or is the old one best?
I hope these questions are good questions and not stupid ones .......

And eventually I am stealing "wilma's" colours by the way ........only because I had them before ...... Don't worry, picture should self destruct in 5 seconds!
I do hope yis will accept someone who doesn't find VW and commers better than each other ...... Just different!

I'm sure we'll live with it;)
The mechanical pumps are fine, some owners fit electric ones because of fuel vaporisation problems but in general they are very reliable. To fit an electric pump safely (especially if you're hiring the van out) it should be fitted with an impact cut-out and possibly a pressure regulator - I'd stick with the mechanical one if you can.
Wilma's very pretty by the way:)

Rest assured that there are others here (well, one anyway) who don't have an axe to grind between VWs and Commers. Our VW T25 Diesel is great for continental road bashing and mountain passes, and the Commer will be cooler for UK seaside romps and general hanging out.

I agree with Panky about sticking to mechanical fuel pumps unless properly fitted by someone with insurance! I nearly set fire to my old Ford Anglia when the output pipe from a badly fitted electric pump split. And electric pumps have little parts to get blocked too. It's the dirt that's the problem, not normally the pump.
