Rubbish Day

I have been over at the workshop all morning, I have come home because I'm now in a very bad mood.
Few days ago I ordered all the bits I need to put my engine back together. I received an email saying "we can't supply over sized piston rings". My pistons are +0.020 so I need +0.020 rings and after speaking to them it seems hopeless. Standard are all that exist now.
So by chance dose anyone on here have or know of a set of +0.20 piston for a Perkins 4 108.
Failing getting a set I will need to buy a set of piston liners and new pistons then try and find some one to put the liners in. This is way to much money for me to be considering at the moment and will put the resto a good few months behind :-(
Thanks

Where have you tried? Gosnays at Romford ( I think? ) have untold supplies of engine parts and would certainly be worth giving a call, that engine is not rare even today so someone will have oversizr rings. Good luck.

Bloody Commer`s!

I have had massive problems getting parts in the past for the engine. It was through lots or research and a tip of or two on here that I came across
www.parts4engines.com they only supply bits for old Perkins engines.

Try these people http://www.fwthornton.co.uk/8.html they have been going for years and hold lots of obscure stuff.
Also worth asking for rings by size rather than for a specific engine, i.e 66.5mm x 3/32 because the same size rings might be fitted to several more common engines :)

I can vouch for f w thorton,s they are bassed in shrewsbury just up the road from me and supplied me with a new old stock set off pistons and gaskets for my 69,car camper before christmas they had all 3 types of piston (low, med and high compression) in stock been useing them for years they even got me apiston made a few years ago for a 250 gtp velo i restored they are very old school and look parts up in aged reffrence books a rare think in day and age they only supply engine componets ie shells pistons and gaskets happy new year

A chap called Clive Pearson advertises in Mags and hes in N Yorkshire and he has loads of stuff

Also when I went to see a guy in Birmingham that worked for an Engineering shop they could alter a ring to fit other applications > they took a ring of correct diameter and thickness and machined ends of ring so amended 'ring gap' would fit into bore > its a pretty common thing to do for competition engines apparently> I think they could also re-do grooves in pistons for alternative rings
