[)]
Ur van is a little older than Rich and Steve's,but might be worth having a look underneath[8D]
On the back of the inner panel is a cut out, that lines up perfectly with the said holes, but we're mounting spotlamps below the bumper so this idea is curently on the back burner.
anyway must go im knact! just painted some stripes on a little hillman imp in London and made it home in 2 3/4 hours (Epsom to Newcastle Under Lyme) My van is currently Ticking and tyres are probly glowing too.

Nite all

got a bit carried away this week and the van is now wheel less axle less spring less and shocker less and sitting on axle stands as i decided the whole lot had to come off for a clean. going to have the rear springs retemperd and an extra leaf put in them as the van is going to be used to tow. gotta take the front end apart tommorow.

shedding dirt weight to make it go faster :D.

just seemed a bit pointless to go through the whole resto having a shiney engine, gear box and body to have a dirty back end. its nearly back together anyways just waiting for the springs then its a quick bolt up and back to normal just cleaner and lighter.

lots of mechanical bits finished, axle is repainted and ready for fitting.had the back springs retempered and a extra leaf fitted
tims tank is fitted with an electric pump just in front of the tank
major difference is that weve run a new petrol feed down the nearside so it enters the engine bay next to the carburretor feed
new brakes fitted all round
had a problem with the heater feed as the holbay head isnt threaded for the pipe outlet so jon came up with an outlet fitted into the top hose
now just the front suspension to dismantle powdercoat rebuild and refit.easters the deadline!!

the undersides not finished yet its a combination of red oxide paint and then 4 litres of hammerite black put on with an undersealing gun.it took me about 2 weeks scrubbing underneath to get all the old paint and muck off 2 baremetal then it was treated with a rust killer then the red oxide and hammerite was applied. its still gotta be waxoyled but im going to wait till its finished before thats applied.

Is the the extra leaf to provide a firmer setup at the rear ?

I was planning to use something similar to route to a Mercedes expansion tank with a level sensor but didn't realise there was no heater feed on the Holbay :( I'm sure with a little rethinking I can quickly resolve this one ...

This is something I'd love to see pics of :p I'm planning to get my hands dirty with Hunny's setup soon, fitting Martin's new firmer shocks too.

the rear springs have been retemperd mainly because its mainly going to be used to tow once its run in. iv added the extra leaf to the bottom so it shouldnt raise the height that much but should firm it up.
the piece in the top hose was made by radtech in cannock cost £20 and saved an awful lot of headscratching. other option may possibly of been to go in through the big nut on the back of the head but this was easier.
pics will be posted of the front suspension rebuild but it may take a while as neither me or richie have ever taken a commer 1 apart before.

ive been told that all the hunter aluminium head engines dont have a water pipe thread, presumably because they were fitted on the tilt
these had the heater fed from the thermostat housing and water pump but you cant fit a hunter water pump because it fouls the alternator

on closer inspection of the front suspension its far 2 complicated 2 warrant removal just for the sake of it so its been cleaned and resprayed black.
the brakes are almost finished has anyone else had trouble getting the front drum on with brand new brake shoes?.
90% of the electrical wiring is now finished.
the interior has been spruced up with a genuine new dashboard and replacement dials and switches. the plastic headlinings have been repainted.
and iv had 2 bite the bullet and have a custom made exhaust which is being done this week as i just couldnt get sufficent bend 2 get past the alternator. will post pics when its back.

im having similar problems with the front brake shoes on basses van, bloody things, oh well keep trying.;):p
