the fitting of the webers wasnt actually that difficult just took quite a bit of looking at and head scratching and then going sod it and getting the grinder out. like dad says when he posted the pics up all you have to do is remove the filter housing by putting a flat plate in and then sealing up the hole on the side. and the new piece of steel that you can see thats gone in is just the original tray section turned 180 degrees so it slightly shortens the battery tray but gives a load more room in the engine bay. havent touched the lid mounting piece or the screw on side cover at all so it will all remount and look original inside. just got the doors signwriting and getting it running to do now. credit for the bodywork must go to richie the restoration guru.

Thanks for the info, Baz.

I'm still puzzled at the different propshaft length for the Hillman GT (as per Panky's) as tried a variety of Hunter/Rapier props (non o/d & o/d) but all either too short or too long.

hole saw,ally mesh,air from the scoop under neath then exiting under the engine + an intake in the n/s front wheel tub,no big horrid air filter but socks instead (John's the brains behind the sock bit)
Just got to sort a front towing eye out,which may nead some head scratching!!..wonders into the kitchen for a Stella and a scratch!!!

Careful with sock filters. Ideally you need some form of mesh across the mouth of the intake to prevent the sock from being 'sucked' into the carb and to help the sock retain it's shape (probably not a problem in a Commer but has happened with more performance orientated engines).

I've got socks for the twin 40 Webers intended for Madge (my Vogue) but that's a long way off for now.

used to use my Mum's tights on my RD250 Yamaha and just a smear of grease or vaseline......secured with a jubilee clip!

There's 2 captive nuts in the o/s/f chassis leg,and looks like they used to have a towing eye there,but doesnt look strong enough to tow on,may have to bolt it then run weld round the bracket:(
Towing eye will be Fiat or Afla Romeo as i know what i need in my head and this part ...well it just fits the bill!!!
The only thing is Rich and Steve want some spotlamps on the front ,so might end up doing something totaly different yet:p
But between us we normaly come up trumps:D

I thought this was a standard towing eye for these vehicles.
Mounted under the vehicle, near the front suspension as far as I can remember.

Or is that something else?

Then again, surely the vaseline would make the seat slippery?

The two spare captive nuts I know of, I think they are for mounting the steering box on LHD vans so probably quite (very) strong. And I'm sure you're not going to be towed too fast are you?!
I was considering a towing eye in there too

My Bluebird is at Martins place still (I think), so he may be persuaded to take a look underneath it to see if he's familiar with that mounting.

I didn't really look very closely at the said bracket and haven't got any better photos of it, but I believe it was bolted on - and looked pretty tough.

you 'think' Martin has your van?
my dad had a Vauxhall Victor ELD 462C I don't know much about no. plates but didn't the letters indicate where a vehicle was built/registered?

Well, haven't spoken to him for a while, thats why. Been abroad for some time, and generally too hectic with out 5 month old to be able to keep on top of things. :I
