rstoration has started

had a stroke of luck recently in that a freind of mine whos very very good at bodywork has offerd to help out with the van. so far theres 2 new bits of floor in the drivers side with 2 more still to go, the drivers side sill which was nothing but filler and 2 spot welds has been removed and replaced. The passenger side rear corner which had a nasty scrape and dent in it has been cut out and is held in ready to be welded up. as well as the tops of the chassis sections underneath the floor being replaced. she's coming on now.

just thought id post an update of how the vans coming along. will post pics later. virtually all welding work is now complete just a little bit of roof guttering to chop out and repair. i know have 2 whole doors again thanks to woolfy for the drivers side skin and richie for fabricating a virtually complete new lower half of the door. the van know just needs to be flatted back and have the dinks and dents knocked out and filled then its off to the paintshop. so should be a busy next couple of weeks.

and now with it all going so swimmingly nice i decide to investigate that little pinhead sized surface (yeah rite) spot of rust by above the drivers side rear wheel arch.

instant mot failure as its the inner sill as well. annoyed? nah i just threw the sander clean outta the workshop. think its an old crash repair that someones just really bodged.
 
things just kept getting better today the more i poked and proded the more fell off so my pin head sized rust spot has now turned into a complete new rear inner sill (thanks to woolfy for supplying 1 in under 24 hours). and about 2 foot of fluted outer sill. not to mention the 300 burn marks on my arms and head. roll on tommorow as the new steel goes in.

Oh well the rest of the van is solid enough, just a hiccough so you can practice welding ;)

Been so busy lately i havent had a chance to post some pictures up. but to summarise that bit of sill is now fully repaired thanks to richie. only took a complete inner and a new section of flutes :D. the underside is in the process of being deundersealed (theres not alot)and rust proofed. the engine bay is having the same treatment as well as a slight modification. decided to get all the really dirty jobs outta the way before the primer is applied.

no ghost writing this time this is pappa smurf!!!
weve taken out the panel that the original air cleaner sits on to give us more room to mess around with the carb set ups,its definetly going to be holbayed with overdrive ,carbs will either be twin webers or strombergs or a 28/36 single weber.but interestingly it may benefit from a saab turbo as i know a man who says he can
we looked seriously at putting a 1600 gls avenger/ sunbeam engine in as with a little tweeking you can easily get 110bhp.so loads of options

ps to martin hows the ghost ebay purchaser anne from sherburn in elmet???dont suppose youve met yet??:D:D:D:D
