Rootes 1725 engines : the differences ?

Hi All.
I was talking to a older guy/mate I know a few months back regarding my Commer...he was saying back in the early 80's his old man dropped a Ford Sierra lump into a Commer... & the only thing they needed to modify was the gear linkage to fit.
If that's the case & fact I'm off out hunting for a COSWORTH lump lol

Hi All,

I pick up a Rapier engine next week. For those who have been running them for a while do you have any advice? Thanks to photobucket being a pack of cunce, most of the old threads are useless now.

Nice one. If it's an Arrows Series Rapier engine then you will need to swap a few things over from the Commer engine but it's all bolt on stuff. Thermostat, water pump front engine plate (for the engine mounts, sump pan all spring to mind. Are you keeping the Rapier twin carbs or fitting something else?

Ta. From reading the pages it also looks like the rocker cover or dipstick mods. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it so no biggy.

I'll be using it as a test bed really for forced induction. I'll be looking at a blow through setup for a 32/36 and if that doesn't work then a draw through DCOE setup. Using a toyota SC12 and raising the engine cover around 10 inches for it all to fit. Possibly putting a hump in the cover under the passenger seat for the carb too.

Are you still running the single SU?

OK, cool stuff. I had a chat to my engine builder who isn't a fan of the alloy headed 1725's and reckons the cast iron lump will love the supercharger more. Only one way to find out I guess.

My goal is to be able to tow my racing car to the track.

If I hadn't already have ordered the 6 speed box I probably would have just thrown the engine out and put a real one in.
