i have a commer wanderer pb and the roof is driving me crazy..for several reasons. firstly It doesn't fit well, the end panels need replacing and i can't put it up without 19 assistants which is tricky as its usually myself and my youngest daughter and she cant reach it!
anyway, sorry about the rambling, my question is..can i replace it with a pop top style roof or is this impossible? it would seem this type of roof is easier to use - but where would i get one - i can only seem to find pop tops for vw?[}:)]
any advice greatly appreciated
 
I couldn't advise if it would work as a replacement but, commerland (the guy selling the front hammock) also has an Autosleeper pop up roof in really good condition for sale. :)

Unfortunately the Wanderer roof cannot be simply replaced with an Autosleeper roof. The reason for this is that the Autosleeper and many other pop tops are fitted over a hole cut in the original roof, leaving the original roof intact all around the edges. With the Wanderer, the original roof is removed at the sides right to the gutters and replaced with smooth panels, so you would need to find an original roof as well as a pop top. I think this is what Bazil did.

If it is in good condition, the Wanderer roof is a one person job to put up, provided you are tall enough. It should be self supporting (albeit a bit wobbly) before you put the end panels up. Trouble is, most are not in good condition. Have a look at Gladys's thread.

Gladys's roof goes up quite well but I think Bernie and Heidi would agree it would be easier with some gas struts fitted:I

It's ok to put up alone, even before Bernie replaced whatever it was he replaced, it can be a bit wobbley but if you lock it into the side catches then it's quite stable [8D]

However Gladys' roof is in now harder to put up alone cos Bernie has plonked a Solar Panel on the top of it :D that's why it is rainging all the time now as well :(

As it appears everyone elses wanderer roofs work like a dream i have taken the plunge and taken my roof off and began repairs hoping to make it easier to use... i'm finding it difficult to locate replacement rubber type seals for the ends (front/back) they are an L shape - (old ones had perished) checked through links on here and no one has them, need to be about 18mm deep! any advice?
 
Bernie should be able to help in sourcing them, I'm sure he'll be along later.
