Retro Andy’s second van; One owner 43 years :-)

Childhood camping memories... Well the old boy found the original highwayman rear tent Yee Haa :) Picked it up tonight. It’s in pretty good nick too, not faded too much and with the 70’s flower power curtain still sown into it from new. The poles are archaic with strange welded angle supports. The fasteners are still on too which match the ones on the van including the section that goes under the rear of the van to cut out the draft. Can Anybody post a picture of one up and attached to a Highwayman? Tent instructions too? Oh and the childhood memory. The tent was in a big pile. Needed to fold and roll it and remembered childhood camping memories in France in Dads shiney new Ermine White Mk1 Ford Capri, helping packing up somewhere around La Rouchelle... folding tent roof face down first and then folding the sides in. Rolled up a treat, Mother would be proud :) NEC Classic Car Show for me this weekend, headlamp rings, wipers, bumper if I’m a lucky boy, Nitrous Oxide kit, turbo, slicks... mmm ok need to walk and then walk faster I suppose... and boys beers in Leamington to boot. Life is good... life is Commertastic ;-)

Excellent:)
You're better at packing an awning than me:rolleyes: Looks similar to the one that came with Harvey our Auto-Sleeper. the poles aren't quite as industrial looking though;)

Hell of a find:cool:
OD boxes £200 plus but make sure it's not from the Arrows range (Hunter etc) as the bell housing and input shaft are longer, it's also canted over at an agle to accomodate the slanted engine installation of those cars.

Just a reminder when you come to fit the bumper. The bumper irons are handed, even though they look very similar, and there should be spacers on the bolts between the bumper iron and the back of the bumper, put them on the wrong way and you will put nice little creases in your shiny new bumper:eek:

Holly Sh#te again!!!!!!.. What a find.... took a wrong turn this morning and look what I’ve just found hiding under a tarpaulin that has just come loose.. what looks like a 1958ish Bedford CA Ultrabrake with a 1970’s Commer Highwayman elevating roof. Owners not in. Going back tomorrow. Looks like it’s been undercover for 20 years plus. Even the sills and front floor are good and look at those seats... mint and chrome grill and side stripes, it’s chuffin mint. Would make a very very very cool rat look van if the temptation to T cut could be resisted. From the stickers I reckon it was a 1970’s surf bus. Will post again tomorrow. I wonder if I can pursued them to sell :-0.... we will see. Retro Andy and the Artful Dodger... plus one, poss plus’s two vans... Jeeez

Hell of a find, you seem to have the knack of finding little gems:cool:
Martin Walter conversion with the side elevating roof, just like the Commer Coaster:)

Blimey, found another 2 abandoned Dodge Spacevans in deepest South London! Was driving past a scary looking half abandoned 4 storey house with an abandoned garage next to it and spotted a 73 transit CI motorhome. Lurking behind it an ex telecom Commer, round the back via flats, a large garden with another transit and commer with loads of other hidden motors. Also a large out building and garages pack full of god knows what. They were not in but neighbours say they are not reclusive so will try again later... there may be at least some spares, incl what’s inside those garages! Very limited market for the number plate on the transit camper :-0
