Repainting LRF 943F (56k warning)

Don: Well if his bodywork and interior are anything to go buy then I doubt he'll struggle with a measly MOT. None of us are particularly practical either, but we just read up on techniques a lot then get stuck in, learning from our mistakes and everything.

Adam/Ange: We did try it a bit thicker today and got fewer runs. The problem we've been having has been with the bubbles that are left behind. They weren't popping which according to people on the interweb means the paint is too thick, so we'd make it thinner and it would run everywhere. We're having more success now as when we paint an area, after a few minutes we go over it again more lightly to get rid of the bubbles. I'll try making it even thicker for the fourth coat, then hopefully we'll get it done faster too. :) Thanks for the advice.

commerchris: I didn't realise taking the roof off was an issue for people. All we did was remove all the screws along the top and it lifted right off, although getting it back on was a bit of an arse. We didn't take the frame or anything off if thats what you're thinking.

I read on one of the Rustolium articles that the bubbles are caused if you mix the paint too quickly - the advice was to 'fold' the paint and thinners together and take your time over it - definitely no drill and mixer.

I found if you run over the area with no pressure on the roller before the paint goes tacky any bubbles burst.

The only other thing i can think of is how are you mixing the paint?You have to be careful when mixing to 'fold' the thinners in not vigoursly whisk away:I

Either way youre getting there-We still havent finished Percy yet but other things keep coming up

Ha I guess that kind of explains it then. We dumped it all in an old Celebrations tub and started vigorously beating it with an old inner cardboard tube from some cling film.

That's the method I've been using to get rid of the bubbles though.

The problem is there's so many sites explaining the method, all with slightly different paints and slightly different techniques.
