Removing radiator..

Hi there, had a bit of a nightmare today, was breaking the clutch off so whilst jumping up the road one of the blades on the radiator fan had somehow hit something and bent causing it to tear into my rad :( managed to straighten out blade but radiator is ruined it's need re-coring..
So how straight forward or not is it to remove the rad.. Some pointers what be great ;)
 
It's a lot easier to get to it with the front engine panel off but it is possible to do with it in place. You will need to take the fan and pulley off (really awkward to get the four bolts back in again), top and bottom hose a bolt in each corner and the accelerator cable bracket to remove. You should be able to pull the rad out after that but I think I'd have a look at removing the engine panel to make life a bit easier.
Is it possible that you engine mounts are shot, that could have caused the engine to jump forward and the fan to dig into the rad:eek:
 
Cheers thanks.. I'm no mechanic so thanks for pointer, it looked like the the blade hit something first before the rad as it bent with the edge of the blade facing the rad rather than being bent back if you know what I mean..
 
It could have dug into the rad and dragged itself in, best check the engine mounts just in case as I cant think what else could have bent the fan.
 
Do you have overdrive?
The reason I ask is that with a standard gearbox, the gearbox mounts should prevent the engine moving forward into the rad. With overdrive, anything is possible because the gearbox mounts are generally DIY fabricated.
 
I would suggest a replacement fan blade too if it was bent that much, bending it back into position wont do it much good:(
Think of the fan as a very short screw once it bites in it will pull itself in - like a self tapper in a power driver :eek:
 
Howdy Jagger, what rotten luck you had :(

Is it possible there was an incident with the water pump or loose fan bolts as the cause.

I will check all those today will let you know if I find any clues or cause. Would you have to manufacture a new blade or can you get a whole fan ??
 
All upgrades are welcome could you suggest one!! Also is there an upgrade in water pump I hear of people fitting electric ones of those too!!
 
A Kenlowe fan would be the best but there are cheaper options. I fitted a Davies Craige electric pump, but you do need to get the old water pump housing modified to fit one.
 
I have had a rather expensive two weeks consisting of..
Master clutch cylinder
Master brake cylinder
Full brake pipe system with hoses
Full exhaust with hangers
Brake shoes all round
Inner and outer door skins on both front doors
Door rubbers
Someone to fit the lot
I'm a joiner not a mechanic :(
