Had a very pleasant trundle today as part of Barley Saturday parade in Cardigan, and was delighted to see this wonderful truck as bought from a local farm a couple of weeks ago - apparently been there a long while but now back on the road[^]

Now that's a truck that means business, it's even got front wings made of rubber like some of the Morris Minor PO vans.

its not only got those rubber wings panky ,its got those bent or wobble rubber wings, i read in classic van and pick up a while ago that nearly all the rubber wings on the post office morris minors were bent and that it was a problem with the original moulds they used in the factory.:p;)
 
I wonder if they are made of the same stuff as the XR3i's spoiler in front of the truck [?]

it wasnt a press thing it was the way they were stored with one tucked in side the other and then another two reversed and leant up against them hence the dent in every post office nsf wing, well thats the story i heard from i think sandy hamilton an absolute god in the moggy world
 
thought so, they all had the dent the same on the rubber wings, love the beardmore van, in fact would love a rubber wing van in any nick would have nearly had the full set then, apart from a gown van but only just missed one of them.
 
hadn't clocked the rubber wings, didn't know about them before. Beardmore van very well done - has elements of Martins' telecom van resto about it:)

I'm with you bigmonkey, think truck looks great as it is - there was fleet of immaculately restored resplendent bedford trucks which looked lovely in their signwritten best - but commer had huge character as a working beastie[:X]

I was told about a fire engine that was over restored [V]it even had the chrome door handles re chromed [:0]lost all patina of age etc....now you wouldn't do that to an antique why do it to a classic [?]

nice old truck, looking at that hole in the bottom of the grill above the number plate would you like to wind it over by hand (I think not)Does any body know how old it is? the metal work looks realy good with just surface rust.

I bet it could be turned over, the compression could be really low. And there may be a system for opening up the cylinders while its being turned over.

I'm a fan of hand cranking - I know its dangerous - but I'm that kinda guy ;)

I believe it's fifties era but could very easily be wrong.

Looks to me like a Superpoise, which would put it early fifties. There were a lot of ex AFS 4x4 versions of these auctioned off in the eighties, so it could have been stored until then (but it looks to nice and original for that).
Normal engine's a 4.7ltr straight six petrol, so I guess this one won't be travelling far to a show at todays pump prices.
