Rear Step - Any Bright Ideas?

The rear step is annoying me. I have 2 different types on my 2 PBs and both seem a bad design - maybe is was cutting edge in the 60s. But now they unneccessarily elongate TOL, are a bit flimsy, and will I think get in the way of the towbar I want to fit
Anyone here any experience of converting to Land Rover type folding step? Or any other suggestions?

'cutting edge' is right - especially on the shins if you time step wrong[:0] space for towbar could be a good thing as long as commer suitably rated for towing anything (skins and rice puddings spring to mind with mine:I)

it is generally a help if you are under 5' 5" ish if you are a commer camper owner (you get to stretch out in bed;))

Yes thats exactly the sort of thing I mean. There must be something better out there that can be modified. I might get a Landy folding step and see how I get on

i have had a look around there are some fold out steps which i think are designed for taxi'shttp://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/electric-single-step-p-86.html?cPath=22 i'm not sure its necessary but night be a nice idea :):)
 
If you want something small which won't get in the way of a towbar, have you considered the small fold down step used on boats. You can get them from Midland Chandlers. See http://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/DECK-FITTINGS_B27GM~page~1~sort~Default-ASC.aspx
Go to bottom of the page.

You can just see one on the cabin side of my former boat in the photo below, by the cream coachline at the front. It supports my nearly fifteen stone weight with no problem, provided you have something strong to mount it on. The boat cabin is 4mm steel.

They look similar to the type used on Commer minibuses to access the roof luggage compartment.

some of the latest motorhomes use a single step about a foot wide which you manually pull out and retract and should come just under the towbar or WITTER do a towball mounted step single to either side or double both sides, not too dear either, hope that helps;)

Yes the witter one could be the way forward and not slippy

it folds up where the number plate is normally, about the same size, so when it's down you can't see the no.plate.. clever :p
