Rear light assembly

MOT due soon and just knocked off a Amber lens from rear light assembly. Part is Lucas L572 for the assembly as 1966 van. No easy spare available (£50 on eBay for whole assembly). Lens is intact I think it must have been glued on as there was only one stud holding lens on as far as I can see (I think it is a small bolt ground on the head to fit lens but it looks like it may actually have been under the lens to be honest). if I have to resort to gluing back on what would people advise. Ideally I am going to try and take lens assembly off (access is a pig because of cupboard and gas arrangement) and get old stud out (it is stuck fast on thread at the mo) then try and source small bolts that fill 3 holes in lens and bolt through like the studs. Obviously if anyone has a spare Amber lens and the 3 threaded studs to go with it that would be ace:) no gasket for lens so presume a small amount of clear silicon would be best? Any advice greatly appreciated. If any of those options are a problem for MOT would be handy to know now if anyone knows.
 
Howdy Stan, I can't help with a lens but I see Speedies and Commer Van Spares list them not very expensive. Are they no good?
 
Martin has nothing suitable at the mo, the earlier lens/lamp not listed on speedies website but I guess I can call them on the off chance if I don't sort anything else out. Cheers.
 
I'd put it back together as best you can for now, as long as there's no white light showing then it will be OK. They do come up cheap occasionally, autojumbles usually reveal a few if you don't spot any on ebay.
 
Them auto jumble are pretty good I picked one up years ago for a fiver.. Definitely worth having a look around there's loads coming up..
 
Ok I took assembly off superglued little crack on edge of lens, tried a torch behind and no white light so seeing as I can't find a suitable couple of bolts at home pop down the diy place tomorrow then hopefully sorted. Don't want to just glue back on as if it comes off again might not be so lucky as to not smash the lens:oops:
 
The lenses on my Jennings are held on with screws that go all the way through (impossible to get to the back of the fitting without taking out a load of rusty screws) and could be a better option than aralditing a stud on the back of your lense
 
Panky , cheers, the lens has 3 holes which go through 3 holes in the chrome surround (although one still has a blank in hence I reckon there were no studs holding it on so I reckon a thin bolt will go through the lens and surround. I have whole assembly off so I can easily do bolts at back. I guess if I got right thickness screw it would do just as well will bear it in mind.
