Rear Axle Noise

My rear axle, on my Dodge Commer Camper, is creating one hell of a noise. I think i need to replace the crown and pinion in my diff? or replace the whole diff.or replace the whole back axle. I've been told its a very specialists job to fix. Can anyone advise?

Replacing the back axle is straight foreward, just a big heavy lump. I would think preferable to stripping the diff if you can get an axle you know is good.

that's what we did with yori - find a reliable rear axle and the job is less than getting the diff out

Hi Mark, Welcome to the forum - again have heard that diff a tricky thing to change. Good luck with axle search, there are some different ratios to be had when looking (that's where I cease to sound technical as I can never remember what they are:I)

Diff is an easy job to change. Just withdraw the halfshafts, onbolt the prop, remove the diff, then visa versa

Can you get diffs reconditioned? or does anyone sell diffs?
Can anyone help.

I second what Martin says. Replacing the diff is easy and straight forward. Did it on Chloe when we first got her due to the original whining worse than the missus

I'd say its easier to do than changing the whole axle, less weight and less stuff to remove etc...
