Re spray/ paint

Hi everyone hope you are all well. My camper is running well and I am taking her out on Saturday with my daughter. I am looking to re paint her, I want her in the original colour. Does anyone know anyone local to droitwich spa who does re sprays and could give me a quote? Failing that I am going to paint her myself, does anyone have any tips on doing such a job?

Thanks.

Afraid I can't recommend anyone, but in terms of doing it yourself, the most important part is preparation, preparation and preparation. :)

Exactly that, any tiny mark you can see when unpainted will look terrible when painted. Youtube has some fairly good pointers for starters.

After preparation, CovKid and ChickenKoop demonstrate one DIY way to paint your commer if you click on this video link:)

After watching I'm almost inspired to paint MY Commer this way.;)

If worst come to worst and it all goes wrong you then have to pay someone but I am sure you can do it.:)

Looks really good, the finish is brilliant. I have started preparing my commer by repairing and treating any rust I have found. I have also used some filler, how much sanding will I need todo? What is the best primer and top coat to use? The trouble is I will have to paint/spray my van outside as I haven't got anywhere inside to do it. Finally if I so spray her what is the best equipment to use and how difficult will it be to paint her with a roller? Is there anything I have missed out?

Thanks.

Decent spray equipment can be expensive - especially if you're only going to use it once, so if you go that route why not enquire about hiring a compressor and spray gun. Going in the roller direction is cheap but it takes a lot longer to get the job done, either way you're a slave to the weather and if it rains when you've hired you compressor you still have to pay:I If you do spray your van use cellulose paint, two pack is poisonous and you need to wear a proper respirator.
Why not get yourself a tin of Rustolium (that's the stuff they used in the vid) or go down to your local paint place and get half a litre of synthetic enamel mixed and have a go on something flat and metal - does the fridge need a new coat of paint;)

Summer's Coming

Painting your van,,,,Hmm not as easy as it sounds,[8)]If your just after a tidy up OK and lets face it, it will probably look better than before even if you don't do that great a job.
If you really want that new car high gloss shine i would recommend seeking professional help.

I made a few attempts on mine and found it very hard to achieve a glossy even finish although it looked a hundred times better, in the end i had a professional apply a finishing coat for me.
Doing as much of the prep as possible, dismantling, sanding down and rust repairs etc as well as applying the base coats myself still saved me a bundle and i learned from the experience, hopefully enough to have another bash at it next time myself, Its like Panky says, preparation and more preparation with lots of practice thrown in as well.;)
If you do have ago, Take your time,
Good luck and all the best with it. Good fun:D

Where are you woolfy? Ideally I could do a lot of the prep work and then somebody could spray the final coat for me.

I see your in Coventry woolfy, I'm not that far from you, I could bring it to you. Would you be able to spray it for me?

Yes mate that wouldn't be a problem. Give me a call later this evening or something, my number is 07968634055. Cheers:p

A very good classic car restorer told me that the laying on of the paint is the easy and quick bit. It's the hours/days/weeks of prep that is hard to get right.

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Hi there Andrew. I'm currently Roller painting my van. The results are stunning when you get the hang of it :) look at the last thread here to see a sample. Of course, as peeps have said, it's all in the prep, something i could have spent longer on but paint wise. It's a great and cost effective way ;)

The paint is Rust-oleum combi colour. We had ours specially mixed at extra cost. Rollers are the foam ones but premium ones not the cheap ones from quid shops as the break up too quick with the thinners. Plenty of advice online regarding how to etc.
