Raleigh Bomber Sept 1982!

Nice one John, this place was screaming out for this room, glad at least some of my ideas are usefull HAHAHA!;)

Anyway, onto my project then. Well apart from the Commer the only other love i have at the moment seem to be retro pushbikes. Currently awaiting work are a BMX a Schwinn Stingray, and my beloved Bomber;):p

Always wanted one of these when i was a kid but they were far too much money(At least they were in my family) i used to borrow my mates and go miles on it:D great for wheelies too.

This one ive had since 2004. I got it from a chap in Harrogate. £25 from ebay 'Bargain' it's been a lot cleaner in the past as it's suffered a few house moves now and been stored in all sorts of garages etc. But he's back out again and about to be sorted out and will then come with us to a few meets once the van is up and running;)

Anybody remember these? All i need is a couple of innertubes and he should be sweet again. And then a good clean of course:)[8D]

Here's a few sorry pics of him!

I don't remember the Bomber, it must be post 1980 when I stopped selling bikes. I used to sell lots of Grifters and the last of the Choppers with the T bar gearshift (which replaced the earlier gearknob which caused a few injuries [:0]).

I'm surprised that you don't remember it Chris? They were the first Mountain bike really. Mines dated 9 82 which means september 1982. There were a few different variants, The Super Bomber was black and silver and then there was a Blue one which was the one all the posh kids had:D I had a chopper and swapped it for a really crap BMX a fool such is i! Also had it's baby brother 'The Tomohawk' which again had the Tbar shifter;)

sorry scott I don't remember either:I i certainly do remember grifters, Choppers and Chippers though...I guess I'm a bit older than you though Scott...I had probably got into cars and motor bikes[8D]

I hope your attempts at wheelies will better than the moonwalking:D

That's superb Scott. I had one of these when I was about 12 - so about 25 years ago. I still reckon it was the best push bike
I ever had. Used to ride for miles on it and if I remember rightly, the seat was incredibly comfortable. I was the envy of
all my friends and it was the last time I was cool! Well, until I bought a Commer that is.....

The shape of the crossbar does remind me of a bike I had as a child. It was a secondhand Elswick Hopper.

My mate Billy had one of the very first Choppers (his Dad had all the cash and the flash). The first time I rode it, I pulled away too hard and the front wheel just came straight up the air and the bike disappeared from beneath me. I was left standing with the handlebars in my hands and the bike standing vertical on its back wheel. Never did get to grips with it! :I

lol :):D:)still playing catch up on threads, my bike was bought for £5 of Boston market came as a box of assorted bits and I had to build it myself, it was a cross between a raleigh chopper and a standard pushbike, dead cool, (well really cheap cause thats all we could afford)
