I noticed after the rainfall yesterday that the rain gutters on the roof were not draining from the slits at the front and back of them. I have read that these can be quite a rust trap. Is it best to just try and open up the drain slits at the front and back more or is it worthwhile adding some holes along the length or could this damage the structure of the roof?
 
They dont drain very well, try putting a screw driver in the slit and give it a bit of leveraged to open them up.
 
Anybody got any ways of sanding the inside without scratching the roof sides? Sand paper wrapped round a pencil, or something easier?
 
Ooh thats an idea. I have been thinking dremel but could skip etc. But bigger tool and sheet sounds better. Thanks
 
Right this has opened a whole tin of snails. I have a high top and the the front gutter rail is held on by what I think is a harry Potter spell and perhaps a few pieces of flakey rust. This means I have never seen the drain holes. I'm having a fortnight off work to try and rebuild said guttering/roof/peak and was blissfully unaware of drainage. Mainly because my roof fits in to the gutter and then filled with sealant so technically the rain just flows over. I will probably have to engineer some sort of system but it would be great if one of you beautiful people could take a pic of the original hole/s
 
Brilliant nice one soupdragon. I thought that they were just splits due to rust. This info couldn't have come at a better time as I'm about to embark on the project next week (weather permitting)
 
Same as mine, later ones had the gutter corners formed into a little spout, bit like a short fat milk jug one - they are much better.
