Radiator repair

Had a mishap yesterday when fitting an alternator to Debs Moggie and ended up with a small hole in the radiator. Don't ask how I did it as it embarrassing to say the least. Anyone know if having a radiator re-cored is a cheaper option than buying a new radiator at £108?

Hi Dave. I had my stag radiator repaired 8 years ago and not had a problem. We have a fantastic radiator specialist in Grimsby. Give this number a call 01472355544 he also had a place in Scunthorpe. I have also had new ones from him some times. Hope this helps. Colin

I'm pretty sure you would pay at least that for a re-core, last time I had one done (Commer) it was around the £130 mark.

Thanks for the help guys, found a local rad specialist that may be able to repair it. If not a recore is more expensive than buying new. Will let them have a look at it on Monday. Expensive mistake should have remembered I hadent fitted nuts to the bolts holding the alternator in place whilst trial fitting it before I pushed the electrical plug in

They can often be soldered:
I put a hole about the size of a new 5p in my moggy minor's radiator after some enthusiastic work with the starting handle. I used a domestic soldering iron to solder a bit of (cleaned) cat food tin on as a patch.

It's still there now, no problem.

Cats happy too.
