Quick coil question

ok this is going to sound dumb but bare with me. on the coil there are 2 wires, are they both live? or is 1 live and 1 earth? i ask because i am wondering if the coil earths through a wire or via the clamp to the body? the answer may help solve my problems lol ;)

One wire is a live feed from the ignition (+), the other one (-) goes to the points on the dizzy.

cool, its just that my coil is currently not mounted tight to the inner wing so i was wondering if it earthed through the mount as it could have caused my probs

That's the best place for it[^] just make sure the clamp is tight and the mounting bots have a good contact with the metal.

thats what i mean, the clamp is bolted but its not tight and there is alot ov underseal between the clamp and body so im wondering if the coil is not earthing as well as it should :)

lol, i guess there is only 1 way to know for sure, i will replace the lot and clamp it tight :)
