Well, i had an evening off yesterday, and went to bed early last night, lol!..
Today i bolted up the engine and gearbox tight and bolted down the engine mounts, fitted the starter(the engine turns fine) then walked away and opened a bottle of red wine..c'mon its Saturday evening, and i was out there till 21.30 pm..
I meant to take a few pics, tommorow ok Panky
..just to show how little clearance there is between the Strombergs and the engine compartment side.
I have a shopping list that will be ordered from Speedys on Monday, that includes the twin downpipe.[}]

Are you going for a two into one system for simplicity or a double pipe out the back [8D]

Most likely go for simplicity this time...time is of the essence dear boy as well!..
So the hunter GT block is sitting pretty in my Highwayman finally...
As you can see there isnt much clearance for the downpipe, its a twin but i dont know what it looks like until i get my hands on it.
I think though that it should fit through the space available,of course if need be the 'gas axe' shall be called upon to warm it up and persuade it to fit.
Ive had the Strombergs stripped down today, the rubbers and gaskets seem pretty recent actually, ive polished them up since the photo was taken as well and they look really well now.Its going to be a tight fit, but the pancake filters do just squeeze in..they will have to do for now,i really dont want to start butchering the shell.
The oil filler neck on the hunter rocker cover stands proud of the engine compartment, so ive trimmed it down to fit ready for welding and will have to relocate the breather pipe which was in the filler neck elsewhere.

I tried the Commer rocker cover, unfortunately the holes for the screws are slightly different, so no joy there.
Thanks for posting those pics of the downpipe Panky!!, now i know what to expect.I agree some 'fettling' with a bit of heat will see it being fitted.
Had to re-position the coil as well, it now sits under the drivers seat, as the Hunter top end offers no provision for mounting as it was on the Commer.
Im just waiting for parts now before i can go any further..

Looks like the coil was meant to be there. It is a tight squeeze for the filters to be sure, I've got a K&N cone filter on the Mini and they look to be a better option as they should clear the body work without mods. I think I'll look for another one to fit when I do my install, all this hard work you are doing is very helpful and educational for me [^][^]. Keep up the good work, if you need any more of my really helpful advise just let me know [}]

I have named my Commer 'Nomad'
I have had Nomad running today!, WOOOHOOOO!..
Ummm rather 'loud' due to the lack of exhaust piping, haha!..[}]
Tommorow i shall order two choke cables, unless one of you knows a suitable choke cable set up that operates the two chokes from one cable then i shall have to have two seperate choke cables.There is a hole already drilled next to the passenger seat anyway.
I have to fix the oil leak from the cork sump gasket at the g/box end, the old one fell out and i couldnt get to refit correctly.Macs factors have a full set for 15 quid(ill have to pay it seeing as The Speedy family are away for a while.
Everything bolted in 'tightly'(and with no knocking or vibrations!!)
I removed the plastic T piece between the twin Strombergs and have fed a single line to each that splits at a T piece.i have yet to fit the pressure regulator(i just wanted to get Nomad running!!!).I shall fit that near to the coil.
I have used the Commer water pump and thermostat setup, and so too the Lucas 45 distributor, the Hunter comes with a Lucas 25 with vernier adjustment but i chose to use the 45 as its in better condition and the 25's vacummn advance wasnt complete.
I havent relocated the starter solenoid, there is enough space between the filter and solenoid not to cause any concern.
