Progress

Stripped down the engine today, well partly...the rads pretty well buggered as you can see below..

Sorry about the poor photo..think my lens has lager on it..haha.

Further inspection today and i found one of the gearbox rubber mounts in very poor condition, so this would have contributed to the demise of the radiator last week.
I dont know if Speedys stock the gearbox mounts, they are not listed.If anybody knows who might, speak now please..:D
Ive decided to replace the water pump as well as a precaution and gotten myself a new exhaust silencer, well new to me, about 20 years old so Speedys tell me, lol!.
All being well i should have her back together by the end of the week.

So ive done some more work to my van, ive spruced the interior up with a few crochet knit blankets and throws.

Ive removed the two forward facing seats and fitted a single bed as well, a slight deviation from the original design but ill be needing something more permanent if i work the festival season next year as i plan to.

I still havent resolved the overheating issue, the missing metalwork that directs cool air to the rad never materialised.Ive replaced the water pump, flushed out the rad, the block, set the timing spot on with a strobe and set the carb mix correct to try and resolve things.
Still i wont be beaten, fitted some low profile wider front tyres today, to help improve the handling, 205/55/15s...drives nice with no clearance issues either.Just need to source a pair of similiar tyres for the back.
The fuel gauage had packed up, i have to say the commer is endless with its demands on me!..haha!.
The front end and doors are ready for paint now.

Chris:i think mum has forgiven me, though at the moment theres a commer front end leaning against the same fence.Not sure its really doing the fence any favours!..lol!
 
Barb has asked me to find out if you use singing bowls, lovely things. My daughter actually managed to include them in a piece of music she wrote, how cool is that [^]
 
I picked up the Hunter GT unit today..

Complete and hopefully will be in my van this coming week!..Just a few things to attend to enable a straightforward fit..im tempted to lose the twin carbs and stick to the single carb setup and to use the Commer water pump/thermostat setup as the block is identical..but for sure the extra BHP would be nice[}:)], we will see next week how it works out.
Got myself a middle seat as well as the drivers and passenger seats to match, and thankyou kindly i now have another metal bellypan to fit under the front end!.

Loosing the carbs and water pump would make a simpler install but then you'll never know [}:)]. I'll be in touch.

Might be best to fit as a Commer set up just to make sure everything is OK they have a play later.
 
Well the Hunter engine is in the Commer!, finally after two evenings of headscratching and the odd swear word or two(maybe a lot more actually!!);).
I had to swap the front engine plate to allow the unit to use the Commer Engine mounts, this meant removing the timing chain and wheels.
Also had to remove the spigot bearing from the end of the crankshaft to allow the torque convertor to fit.
Also the sumps had to be swapped, the Hunter sump is slightly bigger( i realised this after many attempts to get the Hunter engine in unsuccesfully due to the sump being to big to clear the steering arm.

The rocker cover oil filler neck will be cut and re welded shorter, it just sits proud of the top of the engine bay.
Otherwise all is looking well, some modification may be need with the downpipes, that though isnt a major concern.

Good going [^]. With more time to spend do you think it would be possible to retain the Hunter front plate and fan assembly with a few mods [?]
 
If you wanted to retain the Hunter engine mounts i think it would involve fabricating mounts that would enable the Hunter mounts to be fitted to the chassis legs.The Hunter mounts are situated alike many cars 'midway', unlike the Commer which are at the front of the engine.
