I hear what you are saying but if it will cost Jules £500 or whatever to fix mine up and one of these is immaculate it may be worth it, I just want to find out a bit more.
If that's for a complete door, sound metal throughout, it doesn't sound too far from what my son was quoted for a door on an early bay VW.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has one cheaper, even one that's repairable rather than ready to use, if that's what these are.

Update, spoke to Jules this morning, (will post restoration progress pics later).
My door is in a dire state now that the paint, filler and rust of the last 35 years have been removed, if he has to rebuild it it will take his metalwork man Martin a week or more plus the metal so I would be looking at a good bit the wrong side of £500.
Jules has already been in touch with Woolfy lots of the other metalwork being repolaced has come from him and hasn't managed to find anything better.
If anyone out there has a decent door for less than £350 fine, tell me about it, but I am feeling a bit leapt on for considering a completely sound door for £350 to be a fair price

Thats the trouble, supply and demand. If someone things demand is on the up they do the same with their prices.
I've got an old Ford car lurking at the back of the shed, its like a 'Pop' but older with 3 slots in the grill not 2. At some point in its life the grill was changed but I have looked for years to get a correct one, saw one at Beaulieu once, the chap said its extremely rare (as I know it is) but I could have it for £575!!! That more than I paid for the car, no surprise he was still taking it to jumbles almost 10 years later!
At the end of the day its a choice of whether you need it enough and whether you'd pay the price.

this is what i mean if you have a door that is shot then you need these valueable spares but the seller has hiked the price cos he knows this saves most owners work. if the likes of martin had the doors you would get them at a sensible price or sometimes what he has paid for them to help people out, that is the hobby side of things not the business side. why should someone pay more just for the sake of supply and demand. if we all worked on supply and demand then our vans would be worth treble a-la VW and few of us would be able to afford them. i paid 350 for charlie, you try getting a vw for that money!

The problem I have is that, unlike a lot of you I have no mechanical or bodywork experience or skills so I have to pay whay it takes if necessary.
When I bought Buttercup from my father in law 22 years ago it wasn't a rare classic it was an old, much loved, camper. It's still much loved but after years of bodging it needs a proper restoration, hence getting Ratsport involved.
I am trying to get the best job done I can (within a bit of budget limts) to give the old girl and us another 30 years together.
I will consider all alternatives to find bits to get her back on the road in good health.
I do look forward to seeing some of you at some of the meets once she is running again and we can discuss this sort of thing over some liquid refreshment on a summer afternoon

best of luck with resto - don't want to give the impression you're under fire - just that it would get me to think someone in your position was held to ransom for your important works - but as you rightly say, if it proves to be a better option than alternatives open to you then all to the good.

I think it would be a waste of money to pay me to make a door from scratch (useful stuff that scratch) - which would be more than £350 - when a door can be purchased. In the same way it would be silly not to use Woolfy's lovely panels (which its had) for areas they are available or Tim's Beautiful tanks (which it needs)
It would be nice to come across a good door for less than this but I dont think its going to happen, especially if as Martin says prices are going North. I did ask on the forum a few weeks ago and checked my contacts but to no avail.
It needs more than a skin & reinforcing as the frame is rotten and its accident damaged.
The problem is he is the only one who wants a door, so as Studiocommer says he is being held to ransom in effect. If more Commers get restored then more people will want doors then maybe Woolfy could be persuaded to start making complete doors.
Same with Martin's 1/4 light rubbers (which Buttercup needs) - if enough people are prepared to pay for them then he will get them made.
Same with hubcaps - I can make them for much less than the ebay guy is selling old stock ones for but only if I can be sure to sell 100 or so to pay for the tooling. So at the moment he has a monopoly and its the same with the door guy - hence the high price.
On a different note Buttercup isnt just filling over the cracks hes doing the full works and spending time and hard earned dosh doing it. Which means another van on the road after x years rotting away, another forum member that we can discuss our hobby with and hopefully have a beer with at meets. Which has got to be good for everyone.
On a different note I think that prices even of complete vans are heading up. A couple of newly purchased vans have visited me recently which I think would have been purchased much cheaper a couple of years ago. Irrelevent for those of us with vans already and no desire to sell, but not so good for anyone who wants to buy one....

Woolfy it's the n/s front, the same as the ones that kicked this thread off in the first place, being totally honest the one I have is not fit for exchange.
However, I have already started making enquiries with Martin on the others which are "new" in grey primer.
I think it might be best to see how much shipping etc costs and see what happens from there. I will post again as soon as I know one way or the other.
