While everyone else has been doing something useful, like bringing Commers back to life I have not been totally idle. I have bought myself a DVD recorder on ebay so I can transfer my videos of our Commer adventures in the 1960s onto DVD and then post them on the forum. Trouble is I am having a couple of problems:

1. I seem to have bought a faulty recorder. It works fine playing pre-recorded DVDs but when I play the video through the machine or try to record I get a load of background noise which then appears in the recording. [:(!] :(

2. Assuming I manage to successfully record something, how do I post it on the forum? Do I have to join Youtube and make it available to the world, then provide a link, or is there a site like photobucket for moving images.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received, otherwise I will just have to describe our adventures. :D

I have tried to use another format but was very difficult for me any how something like windows movie maker,but you have to put them on the internet before you can add a link here,some one else might have a better idea,good luck [8D] really looking forward to the videos [8D]

Ok in a nutshell what you need to do is record it to your hardrive and then sign up to www.sendspace.com and give us the download link by posting it up here;-)

It may take some some to upload it to Sendspace but it will give you a link that you copy/paste to here. It will however expire within a week so you need to put a shout out to say when you plan to give us the download link!

Forgot to mention............You need to upload it to sendspace first once you have copied it to your hardrive. Kind of the same thing as uploading a pic to Photobucket;)

Your first problem may be due to copyright protect in the DVD recorders? If you could hook up one player to a recorder you could duplicate the dvds so they add that noise afaik
 
have put short video clips on photobucket and linked to them from here - was hoping to have a look and see what limits are for video storage - but photobucket on site maintenance today [V] so will have another look later.

Can't wait to see them, good luck with transferring process - hope you crack the sound problem soon:)

I don't think the first problem is copyright protection, as I am recording from a camcorder in accordance with the instructions. It's not a major issue with my old films as the only sound is that of the projector when I transferred it to video, but the later stuff when my children were small does matter.
 
photobucket has 5 minute 100 mb limit per file - have just loaded up this not great quality windows media video format o.k. but not sure what format your files will come up in...

Sounds like youtube a good thing as not time limited - haven't uploaded to it so can't help with advice on that one - good luck:)

Have just recorded snippets of 1968 and now my PC won't recognise the disc! It's a DVD-RW. [:(!][V]

I might take it to work tomorrow and see if I can play it there and transfer it onto a memory stick.

I dont think that I would be standing there if he was driving that close to my feet (I like having my toes):D A nice bit of footage hopfully some Commer footage soon :p

good luck with footage - sounds complicated - do you have a computer shaped hole in the window yet:)[?]

Have transferred slides to digital in the past by projecting them on a white surface in a dark room and using digital camera to photograph projected image, comes out pretty well - same principal could work if you have a digi camera with video (with or without sound) - project cine and record results[?]

p.s. seems like you've had some success - have just seen youtube links:):):)
