popping/ missfire/ backfire

Hello all ! " not been on for a while" is the catch phrase.
been meaning to post this since buying "chloe" I had a missfire on down hills at first thought it was a timming issue it got worse heading round herefrordshire / Shropshire June 2010 and coming to a halt in Llanfair Caereinion Sept 2010 with spectacular backfires around Powys and Gwynedd!!!!!
ignition advanced I thought and others thought!
IGNITION COIL breaking down until lts failure is what the problem was!!!
The new one fitted and the problem solved!!!! I have fitted it slighlty further away from engine.
to prevent thermal runaway
