Poor acceleration

Hi just wondered if anyone can help, been workin on poppy a while now and I'm nearly on the rd, just that when the engine is running and comes up to temp it has a very poor acceleration and seems gutless unless I rev it hard, it has new coil leads plugs, cap, points and condenser, I've done a compression test today and it's all good at 120 psi on all cylinders, also it runs lumpy on no choke but revs through it.....when you come to pull off its a real pain so it needs sorting before my mot,,,, I was guessing carb or around that area...any ideas will be great full..... It's a 1973 1752 engine ...

Sounds like a fuel problem. Check the system for blockages :)

As far as I know only an SU or a Stomberg have dashpots, It's right on top of the dome on the carb. Unscrew the big black plastic nut and pull the plunger out completely, pour oil into the tube inside so it reaches the top of the tube - you wont need much, and push the plunger back in. You will feel quite a resistance as you push it back in. Ideally use auto transmission or power steering fluid but engine oil will do if you haven't got any.

You may have a manifold gasket leak or a timing advance issue. Check the vacuum pipe from manifold to dizzy for splits and have a look at the auto advance unit in the dizzy as it may be sticking :)

Are you getting full throttle travel at the carb?

I am not a person, I am a number, 395 actually......Be seeing you!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Yes I got full throttle use, the flat spot is at the bottom of the rev range, I'll try these other few suggestions and get back you all, thanks

Had this problem a few years back with a Mini,
Turned out to be a partially blocked exhaust/muffler with carbon. Washed it out with a 1/2 gallon of paraffin and as good as new.
