Petrol additives and valve seat problems

What are the panels views on the use of these? I've been using Castol Valvemaster, a phosphorous based product since 2000, valve clearence is (I think) unchanged in a couple of thousand ish miles, leaded petrol is available locally but the price is sky high so I don't bother.

Has anyone had problems with these additves?

We use the valvemaster too - no perceived problems; no measuring either mind you :)

nothing wrong with valvemaster [^] although the real fix is austenitic iron seats and valves, then its not needed.

I've used Castrol Valvemaster on my classics and haven't noticed any issues. I think it's well respected stuff.
 
The price of castrol £9 ? last time I used it [:0]you might as well pay & get unleaded head if you are keeping the car a long time I use my riley every day so well worth having the head done.(unlimited miles on classic policy)I used castrol valvemaster in the reliant use to go like a rocket :D[}:)]:D

when i bought my Commer it come with a bottle and a half of Redex Lead Replacement so this is what i have been using, i havent found any problems, but then it is the first ever commer i have had and the first van that i have needed additive for so i suppose i cant tell if it feels right or not and it is a powerfeull 1500cc :p type so it does feel abit slower than my last VW but then it has a smaller engine so i geusse that should be right, i did do some research on the internet and it said you sould only use one type of additive (i.e you should not keep changing from differnt types)
One question i have got is Redex is quite abit cheaper than Castol is there anyreason for this is one better than the other to use?
 
I run a couple of pre-war Hillman cars and we have always used Redex as an additive. It is cheaper but seems to do the job fine. My father was a mechanic in the 1960's and he has always said to use Redex as its an old and trusted make.
